A Chicago man with a stack of unpaid bills and a looming eviction notice experienced a dramatic reversal of fortune this week, after he found a lottery ticket that turned out to be worth millions in his cookie jar.
Ricardo Cerezo was about to be tossed from his home when his wife found 11 lottery tickets in the kitchen cookie jar and suggested he check for winnings, The Associated Press reported. Mr. Cerezo said he took them to a local gas station — and turns out that one was worth $4.85 million.
He had purchased the tickets months ago but had forgotten about them, AP reported. The winning ticket was for the Feb. 2 state’s Lotto, AP reported.
