Lois Lerner, the Internal Revenue Service head who’s under fire for agents who unfairly targeted conservative nonprofits for additional scrutiny, will nonetheless be recognized as an exceptional public servant with an award at Western New England University School of Law.
She’s also set to give the commencement speech at the May 18 graduation ceremonies, The Daily Caller reported.
“Our plans have not changed at this time,” said David Stawasz, a university spokesman, in The Daily Caller. “Ms. Lerner has apologized for the actions of certain IRS employees. We are aware of the circumstances, but our plans have not changed.”
Ms. Lerner is going to receive the university’s Presidential Medallion — an honor bestowed on those who provide exemplary public service, The Daily Caller reported.
Ms. Lerner recently admitted that IRS agents targeted tea party groups and other conservative organizations for audits.
The university billed her commencement address in a press release this way, The Daily Caller reported: Her appearance is “intended to bring to the students of the college successful role models in a variety of field to hear firsthand their important lessons in leadership.”
