Kazakhstan has become a ground zero of sorts for supporters of Boston bombing suspects Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev.
Leaflets demanded Dzhokhar’s release have popped around the country in recent days, according to United Press International.
“Chechen Republic. Free Jahar [Dzhokhar]. In support of the Tsarnaev brothers,” one leaflet posted on a lamp near a busy recreation center stated, UPI reported.
Another posted on a nearby pole with a picture of the 19-year-old surviving suspect pole read, “Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is innocent.”
Kazakhstan is adjacent to Kyrgyzstan, where the Tsarnaev family resided about 10 years ago before relocating to the United States.
The family is rooted in Chechen history. Several Tsarnaevs lived in Daestan, a northern region of Russia, UPI said.
Tamerlan, 26, was killed in a shootout with police after the April 15 bombing of the Boston Marathon that killed three and left more than 260 wounded. His brother Dzhokhar survived the manhunt, but was captured by police and transferred to Fort Devens, where he is recovering from gunshot wounds.
