President Obama seems to have departed from his duly elected duties, Sen. Rand Paul said Monday, referring to the growing scandal on the IRS targeting of conservative nonprofits.
Mr. Obama has crossed ethical lines, expressed “faux outrage” at the agency’s actions and become “drunk on power,” Mr. Paul said during an appearance with Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
“The president says he’s going to do something if they’re guilty,” Mr. Paul said on Fox News. “Well, it sounds like there’s already been an investigation and no one’s been fired. I’m afraid he’s going to do about as much as he did after Benghazi.”
The reference was to the fact that those in the executive branch who were tasked with providing security at America’s facilities in Benghazi, Libya, are still employed at the State Department.
“This sounds like a president somewhat drunk on power, not cautious about how he uses power,” Mr. Paul said in the Fox News report. Examples: He’s “using the power of his government to investigate his enemies, he’s tapping the phones of the press, and it turns out last year he signed legislation that allows him to detain an American without a trial and send them to Guantanamo Bay,” he said on Fox News.
