The mosque attended by the two brothers suspected of bombing the Boston Marathon recommended at one time that men with disobedient wives beat them if necessary.
The Islamic Society of Boston, a Cambridge, Mass.-based mosque attended by Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, posted on its website in 2004 a 1997 Saudi cleric’s message, “The Muslim Home: 40 Recommendations in Light of the Quaran and Sunnah,” The Daily Caller reported. The mosque billed it on its website as “40 Recommendations for the Muslim Home,” The Daily Caller said.
A key recommendation: “Hinting at punishment is an effective means of discipline, so the reason for hanging up a whip or stick in the house was explained in another report, where the prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ’Hang up the whip where the members of the household can see it, for this is more effective in disciplining them,’” the article stated, according to The Daily Caller.
“Seeing the means of punishment hanging up will make those who have bad intentions refrain from indulging in bad behavior, lest they get a taste of the punishment. It will motivate them to behave themselves and be good mannered,” the article said, as The Daily Caller reported.
The article finished, The Daily Caller reported: “Hitting is not the way to discipline. It is not to be resorted to, except when all other means are exhausted or when it is needed to force someone to do obligatory acts of obedience, as Allah says.”
The interpretation of what Allah says specifically to do to women is that “those … on whose part you fear ill-conduct, admonish them, refuse to share their beds … [and] beat them (lightly, if it is useful),” The Daily Caller reported.
