House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi took to MSNBC’s “Melissa Harris-Perry Show” on Saturday morning to lament the Republicans’ “obsession” with investigating Benghazi, saying it’s part of a greater plan to “soak up all of the congressional attention.”

“The obsession that some of my Republican colleagues have in the House doesn’t look like it’s on the path to really finding a solution, but just to keeping an issue alive,” Mrs. Pelosi, California Democrat, said. “We have to find out everything about what happened there. There’s no question about that.”

“We want to find out what did happen,” she added. “And then it becomes an issue that is subterfuge. Let’s talk about Benghazi forever so we don’t have to talk about really what the American people want us to talk about. They want us to talk about jobs, they want us to talk about economic security, economic growth. They want to talk about the education of their children. They want to talk about their future. We certainly have to give the full attention that Benghazi deserves, but we cannot let it soak up all of the congressional attention. What would be the purpose of that?”

Ms. Harris-Perry interjected, “To keep them from governing.”

Mrs. Pelosi added that protecting diplomats is a priority, but it can’t be done “by their cutting their budgets, then spending all our time investigating why something happened.”
