LAS VEGAS (AP) - X Games star Travis Pastrana might be getting the hang of Nationwide Series racing already.
Pastrana finished 10th on Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, moving up impressively from a 31st-place start. He matched the best finish of his short career, accomplished two weeks ago at Daytona in his Ford Mustang.
“I’m really excited for the guys,” Pastrana said. “I know there’s a lot I need to work on for next weekend, but a top-10 finish here, I will definitely take it.”
Pastrana is a Supercross champion, off-road racer and X Games gold medalist who is driving Roush Fenway Racing’s No. 60 car full time this year after making nine Nationwide starts last season.
With help from his veteran crew chief, Chad Norris, he’s making inroads in a racing career he’s hoping will lead to the Sprint Cup series.
“I’m just excited to have finished a race after last weekend,” said Pastrana, who came in 28th last week in Phoenix. “We learned something even though practice was canceled (Friday). Last weekend we had a lot of practice.”
