Hollywood’s Ashley Judd, 44, will challenge Sen. Mitch McConnell for his seat, says one unnamed insider, who says she has yet to officially announce the run.
“In Ashley’s mind, it is happening,” the unnamed source said to Fox News. “She has devoted herself to many important causes and stepped away from the Hollywood spotlight so this seems like the logical next step.”
The source said Ms. Judd’s political credentials included a “heart in the right place,” Fox News said.
Mr. McConnell faces a reelection run in 2014.
Ms. Judd has met both privately and publicly with Democratic donors and activists over the past couple weeks, even flying to Washington, D.C., for talks with both former and current Democratic Senatorial Campaign heads, Politico reported.
“There looks to be a lot of noise around her running and she’s been active in commenting on politics of the day so it is certainly possible,” said Don Peebles, chairman and CEO of The Peebles Corporation, in the Fox News report. The Peebles Corp. is a member of President Obama’s National Finance Committee.
