A Democratic strategist appeared on Fox News Tuesday night, making the claim that preventing rape should start by simply “telling men not to rape women.”

Zerlina Maxwell argued against women arming themselves, instead suggesting that prevention is key.

“I don’t think that we should be telling women anything,” Maxwell said. “I think we should be telling men not to rape women and start the conversation there.”

Host Sean Hannity and Gayle Trotter, of the Independent Women’s forum, rejected her arguments.

“You think you can tell a rapist to stop doing what he’s doing?” the host asked. “He’s going to listen to an ad campaign to stop?”

Ms. Maxwell agreed emphatically. She continued, suggesting that women shouldn’t be in a situation where they could be raped.

“I want women to be able to protect themselves, yes, but I want women to not be in this situation,” she said.

“We can prevent rape by telling men not to commit it,” she repeated. “If firearms were the answer, then the military would be the safest place for women and it’s not.”
