Hundreds took to the streets Sunday in Caracas, demanding proof that Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez has not yet died from cancer.
Newsmax reported banners carried by the marchers read: “Give us the truth!” And: “Stop lying!”
Mr. Chavez, who has ruled for 14 years, returned from a Cuban hospital two weeks ago, amid predictions that his death was imminent. He’s now in a Caracas military hospital, hooked up to a tracheal tube and receiving chemotherapy, Newsmax reported.
He’s not been seen in public since his Dec. 11, 2012, cancer operation, and government officials have only released one photograph, Newsmax said.
Despite his medical condition, Mr. Chavez continues to govern and issue rules.
“They are violating the constitution,” said one protester. “Venezuela has no authorities right now. President Chavez is sick; he hasn’t said a word in two months. He cannot govern.”
