President Obama’s top-tiered appointees make about three times more than the average American worker, a Government Accountability Office audit shows.

Mr. Obama’s top politicos average about $143,000 each year, compared to the average American worker, who makes $43,000 per year, The Washington Examiner reports. That $100,000 difference in pay each year.

The findings come from a GAO audit of 321 presidential appointees. The 94 Mr. Obama relies on most — those who work the closest with him, the Examiner reports — earn between $120,000 and $172,000 annually.

The remaining presidential appointees work in jobs that pay between zero — they’re status appointments with no salary — and $634 a day, the GAO found. One example: Mr. Obama’s appointment to the International Water and Boundary Commission makes $165,300 a year, the Examiner reports.

By comparison, the median household income in Washington, D.C. — where pay is already the highest in the nation — is about $62,000, the Census Bureau reports, for its 2007-2011 statistics.
