The 4-year-old son of a sheriff deputy in Michigan accidentally shot and killed himself with his father’s gun over the weekend.
“How did that kid get that weapon? How did he get a loaded weapon? How did they have access to it? I just can’t imagine what the mom is going through, because the mom was there, what the mom and other kids are going through,” said one neighbor, in a Fox 17 local news report.
The father was on his way to work at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office when the boy, Michael Richard Leland Easter, found one of his guns in the house and shot himself, Fox reports.
“Not maybe five minutes later, we heard him coming back [from work], his lights were on, his sirens were going, and he raced around the corner and into his driveway and nearly spun out,” the neighbor said, in the Fox report. “Raced up to the house and ran inside. I thought, OK, something is going on.”
The boy was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
