A Newtown family with three children — two of whom were at Sandy Hook Elementary School the day of the fatal shootings — has lost their home to fire.
Hans and Audra Barth and their three children are all homeless now, the local News-Times of Danbury, Conn., reports. They lost everything — including their pet dog and several chickens, Newser says.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire. The American Red Cross has responded and placed the family in a hotel, Newser reports.
Two of the children — a first-grader and third-grader — are enrolled at Sandy Hook, where 26 students and adults were killed in a mass shooting by Adam Lanza in December. The third child is 2-years-old, News-Times reports.
“They lost everything,” said Christine Wilford, a neighbor who is helping to collect donations for the family, News-Times reports. “The house is going to have to come down, the fire department told them.”
