Philadelphia transit police have dubbed a local man a hero, after he jumped onto subway tracks and rescued a man who had fallen into harm’s way.
Christopher Knafele, 32, was waiting for his train Thursday afternoon, The Associated Press reports. A man walked by and fell right off the platform, onto the train tracks, AP says. Mr. Knafele immediately jumped down to assist the man — even though a train was due to arrive in just a few minutes — and held his head and neck in a stable position until emergency responders arrived.
Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority Police Chief Thomas Nestel III said the man who fell is in stable condition at the hospital, but it’s still not known why he fell in the first place, AP reports.
Mr. Nestel also said Mr. Knafele is a hero, for aiding the man so quickly and in the face of oncoming danger, AP reports.
