Meghan McCain is getting her own variety talk show.
The daughter of Republican Sen. John McCain — who has sparked backlash from the conservative community in past years for her public denouncement of some Republican principles — announced her new gig via Twitter.
“I am SO EXCITED to announce my first series “Raising McCain” will premiere this summer on Participant’s new cable network PIVOT!!!” her Wednesday tweet stated.
The show will feature her interviewing various personalities on the road. It’s set to air Aug. 1, Red Alert Politics reports.
Miss McCain describes it this way, in another tweet: “It’s meet the press meets jackass — on the road talk show, and it’s the opportunity of a lifetime!”
Miss McCain has been a contributor on MSNBC and to The Daily Beast. In November, she joined the leadership committee of the Young Republicans Freedom to Marry, a group that supports same-sex marriage. In 2009, she wrote a scathing piece about Ann Coulter — condemnation that touched off a firestorm among many conservatives who suggested she was a Republican in name only.
“Certain individuals continue to perpetuate negative stereotypes about Republicans,” Miss McCain wrote in a March 2009 article for The Daily Beast. “Especially Republican women. Who do I feel is the biggest culprit? Ann Coulter. I straight up don’t understand this woman or her popularity. I find her offensive, radical, insulting and confusing all at the same time. But no matter how much you or I disagree with her, the cult that follows Coulter cannot be denied.”
