Florida homeowners who live just three miles from where a sinkhole swallowed a sleeping man a month ago have now been evacuated, after the walls of their duplex began to crack and the floor buckled.

The Tampa Bay Times says soil experts are now testing the ground by the duplex.

Fox News reported resident Jessica Alfarao first noticed the floor in her living room began to slope, and she called 911.

“If you were to touch it, it’s going up and down and comes back up,” she said in the Fox News report.

Emergency responders from Hillsborough County evacuated the duplex residents Tuesday evening, pending an investigation. Wednesday, fire crews had attached themselves to a telephone pole by rope before entering the building, Fox News said.

The area has seen a handful of sinkhole-related issues in the past month.

Fox News says this would be the fourth in recent weeks — with the most notable one swallowing Jeffrey Bush, 37, while he slept in his bedroom.
