Vice President Joseph R. Biden’s weekend flights from Washington to his Delaware home have cost taxpayers thousands of dollars, one White House blogger finds.
Keith Koffler in White House Dossier reports that Mr. Biden has been flying on a near-weekly basis from his Washington home — a residence that’s already provided at taxpayer expense — to his private Wilmington, Del., abode. He admitted taking the flights at a recent National Association of Attorneys General gathering and said the sequester was pushing him to take Amtrak instead.
The cost of flying Air Force Two? Roughly $8,800 per hour, White House Dossier reports, citing federal data. Do the math and mileage, and a single Washington-Wilmington flight would cost taxpayers about $13,200, Mr. Koffler says.
Mr. Biden said he used to ride Amtrak when he was senator, but Secret Service pushed him onto Air Force Two. He also said that because of mandated federal cuts, he’s been able to talk the Secret Service into letting him return to the train, at least temporarily, White House Dossier reports.
