Three Marines — a male and female victim and the suspected male shooter — are dead following a Thursday evening shooting at the base in Quantico, Va.

Law enforcement responded about 10:30 p.m. to a shooting at a barracks on Quantico Marine Base, about 37 miles south of Washington, D.C., The Associated Press reported.

They found one dead Marine, said Col. David Maxwell, the base commander, in a Friday press conference. Sometime after, they then found the bodies of two other Marines — the suspected shooter, who had turned the gun on himself, and the second victim, AP said.

The three — the names have not yet been released — were all staff members at the base’s Officer Candidates School, AP said.

“It’s been a long night,” said Col. Maxwell, as reported by CNN. Authorities are still seeking a motive.

Quantico Marine Base also serves as the training academy for the FBI.
