Palestinians say President Obama ought to get off the sidelines and push hard for a peace deal while visiting Israel this week.
If not now, the chance for peace might be blown forever, they caution in an Agence France-Presse report.
“We are in an emergency situation,” said one Palestinian legislator, quoted by AFP. “We don’t have time. Either the settlements are stopped immediately … or you can kiss the two-state solution goodbye.”
Mr. Obama has said his visit to Israel this week will not focus on forging any peace deal. Rather, his priority is more diplomatic in nature. He is aiming at welcoming Israel’s new government and emphasizing America’s commitment to the nation’s security, various media report.
