The former treasurer of a Douglasville, Georgia Girl Scout troop faces felony theft charges for swindling $9,800 from her daughter’s group, forcing it to shut down.
Darlene Jo Lewis, 49, was arrested Friday and is awaiting trial at the Douglas County Jail. Police say the mother spent the stolen Grils Scout money on gifts, on her son, and also on a dating service for seniors.
Georgia’s Girl Scout Troop 798 will most likely close, unable to make up for the lost funds.
Just Monday The Washington Times reported that Oregon Girl Scout troops were scammed out of a fake order involving 6,000 boxes of cookies and $24,000.
Just two weeks ago, two Girl Scout troops in Arizona were robbed within 24 hours of each other, totaling losses of over $500.
