House Speaker John A. Boehner, appearing on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, addressed Sen. Rob Portman’s recent switch on gay marriage.

“Rob’s a great friend and a long-time ally,” he said of his fellow Ohio Republican in an interview with reporter Martha Raddatz. “And I appreciate that he’s decided to change his views on this. But I believe that marriage is a union of a man and a woman.”

Miss Raddatz then asked the speaker if his views on same-sex marriage would change if a close friend or family member came out as gay.

“Listen, I believe that marriage is the union of one man and one woman,” he said. “All right. It’s what I grew up with. It’s what I believe. It’s what my church teaches me. And I can’t imagine that position would ever change.”
