Honda is recalling almost 250,000 vehicles worldwide for a problem that could cause the car to brake involuntarily.

The malfunction is with the electronic stability control system, which is supposed to help drivers to maintain control during abrupt maneuvers, especially on slippery surfaces, CNN reported.

More than 180,000 vehicles are being recalled in the United States, including the 2005 Honda Pilot SUVs, 2005 Acura RL sedans and 2006 Acura MDX SUVs.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents show there have been 205 complaints on 2005 Honda Pilots alone, USA Today reported.

The Honda Odyssey minivan is being recalled outside the United States, according to CNN.

Honda said that no accidents or injuries have occurred due to the malfunction.
