George Prescott Bush could be the next in the family political dynasty to serve in public office.
The Ft. Worth, Texas, attorney and consultant filed paperwork Tuesday for the position of land commissioner — a low-profile but high-powered seat, The Associated Press reports.
Mr. Bush, who speaks Spanish and is generally regards as a rising star in conservative Hispanic circles, is the nephew of former President George W. Bush, the grandson of former President George H.W. Bush, and the son of Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. That last — Jeb Bush — has been in the press lately as possible Republican candidate for president in 2016.
Mr. Bush — George Prescott, that is — unveiled his campaign website, “George P. Bush for Land Commissioner,” earlier this week. In a video posted on his new site, he said, “Texas is an exceptional state because we as Texans are exceptional.”
He’s been active in politics for some time. In 2012, AP reports, he became the deputy finance chairman for the Texas Republican Party.
