President Obama’s approval ratings are trending downward, falling to levels not seen in more than a year, a new poll finds.
The McClatchy-Marist poll, which measured Mr. Obama’s job performance as well as his likability, found that his favor had fallen with voters in both areas. Poll authors attribute these drops to the end of the campaign season, and the fact he can’t bounce off Mitt Romney’s failures.
“You remove the electoral context and post-election celebration, and some of the numbers are returning to the dissatisfaction people had,” said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion at Marist College in New York. “Any glow from his re-election is starting to fade.”
The survey numbers put Mr. Obama’s job performance disapproval at 48 percent. In December, Mr. Obama held a 50 percent approval rating. His favorability rating, meanwhile, stands at 48 percent — down from 53 percent in December.
