Congressional Democrats have shifted to fundraising mode and have launched a reportedly rare campaign for donations that sees them calling for 100 percent donation participation among freshmen.
The Hill reports the campaign was launched by two dozen freshmen to the rallying call “Bring back our endangered classmates in 2014!” The goal is 100 percent participation of freshmen class dues or donations, to the tune of $125,000 to $300,000, The Hill says.
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee members are excited by the push, with one describing it as “incredibly rare and very aggressive,” The Hill reports.
Democrats face significant challenges in 2014 elections. The party needs 17 seats to gain a majority in the House. The DCCC, meanwhile, spent $60 million to elect 49 to the House in 2012, The Hill reports.
