BIRMINGHAM, ALA. (AP) - Sebastien Bourdais has shrugged off any alleged feud with former teammate Katherine Legge, who was has been vocal about her termination from Dragon Racing.
Bourdais was dragged into the dispute last month when he commented that Legge’s performance had been “just weak” at a test with the IndyCar team in an interview with ESPN.com. Legge denied Bourdais’ version, saying he was misinformed.
Bourdais, speaking at IndyCar’s media day, said he answered one question about Legge during a lengthy interview and in answering it made “a big of a mess out of it … just being inaccurate is what happened. You are always going to be asked the question you probably just should not answer.”
Legge was replaced at Dragon by 22-year-old Sebastian Saavedra, and the British driver said she’s exploring legal options because she brought sponsor TrueCar to the race team.
Bourdais said he reached out to Legge via email to explain his quote in the ESPN.com piece, but she did not respond.
“I am perfectly fine with what I meant. There was no offense. She is a good driver. She can do good things. Again, it was just not my decision,” he said. “I’m glad that the team’s in good shape, and we have two cars that should be running the right way with two good drivers. It is sad for Katherine. But the team made the decision and I’m moving forward now.”
