Rep. Paul Ryan says he won’t run for House speaker, but he could very well run for president in 2016.

Mr. Ryan says he is just waiting to wrap deficit talks before making any political career decisions, The Hill reports. But the idea of a White House run is “more realistic,” he said, during a Fox News appearance over the weekend. His comments came in context of discussing his experience as a vice presidential campaigner with Mitt Romney.

“I enjoyed the experience,” Mr. Ryan said, on Fox News. “It made it more realistic in my mind.”

He also ruled out a challenge to Rep. John Boehner’s leadership post.

“I have no plans to be in House elected leadership. If I wanted to be in elected leadership like speaker, I would have run for these jobs years ago. I’ve always believed the better place for me is in policy leadership like being a chairman,” he said, The Hill reports.
