A New York woman is going to try out for the NFL, a first in league history.

Lauren Silberman, 28, whose background is in soccer, will get a chance to live out her NFL dream on Sunday at a regional scouting combine at the New York Jets’ training facility in Florham Park, N.J. Her goal, she said, is to kick perfect 60-yard field goals.

“I am working hard to prepare but I am also realistic about my chances,” she wrote in an email. “I hope my willingness to put myself out there inspires others to seize opportunities and challenges. The support from around the world has been so heartening.”

Her NFL try comes on the heels of another historic first in NASCAR. Danica Patrick recently became the first woman to win the pole at the Daytona 500.

On Sunday, Miss Silberman will face stiff competition from more seasoned college kickers hoping for the same shot to an NFL training camp.
