Sarah Palin said the United States is “so screwed” by President Obama’s picks of Susan Rice to head national security and Samantha Power as ambassador to the United Nations.

In a lengthy post on her Facebook page Thursday, the former GOP candidate for vice president blasted the appointments, partly because of Ms. Power’s husband, Cass Sunstein, a former Obama administration regulator czar and staunch animal-rights advocate.

“Cass Sunstein [is] the very, very strange Obama pick for an early ’czar’ position who wowed us with his numerous bizarre claims, including the wacko belief that animals should have the right to sue in court, that hunting should be banned as genocide and that pet ownership is akin to ’slavery,’” Mrs. Palin said.

But Ms. Power’s “judgment in choosing her life partner is the least of America’s worries,” Mrs. Palin said. She railed against perceived anti-Israel statements the appointee made on prior occasions, citing a Daily Caller report that recalls Ms. Power suggesting in 2002 a forced Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, “even if it alienated wealthy-pro-Israel American Jews.”

President Obama named Ms. Power, a Pulitzer prize-winning journalist and human rights activist, earlier this week, at the same time promoting Mrs. Rice to national security adviser. Ms. Power needs to be confirmed by the Senate, Mrs. Rice does not.
