SEATTLE (AP) - Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy has left his start against the Seattle Mariners in the third inning because of pain in his ribs.
Peavy had an extended conversation on the mound Tuesday night with manager Robin Ventura after giving up a double to Raul Ibanez. Chicago trainer Herm Schneider was then called to the mound and, after a brief talk, walked back to the dugout with Peavy at his side. Peavy was replaced by Brian Omogrosso.
The White Sox announced X-rays on the left side of Peavy’s ribs were negative. He has an MRI scheduled for Wednesday in Seattle.
Peavy gave up three runs in the first inning with two outs, capped by Raul Ibanez’s two-run homer. Seattle added two more off Peavy in the third. The right-hander was tagged for six earned runs for the second straight start after lasting just four innings against the Chicago Cubs in his previous outing.
