Two Catholic and three Christian schools in Gaza could face closure if Hamas really cracks down on an order that bans male-female co-educational program, the head of Latin Patriarchate Schools said.

The Hamas order is based on Islamic law that prohibits men and women from teaching children of the opposite sex who are older than 10, the Catholic Herald reported.

“This will be a big problem,” said Father Faysal Hijazin, in the Catholic Herald. “We hope they will not go through with it, but if they do, we will be in big trouble. We don’t have the space, and we don’t have the money to divide our schools.”

The schools would also have to hire more teachers, the Catholic Herald reported.

“We will never accept this even if we have to close the schools,” Father Hijazin said, in the report.
