Just days before famed Navy SEAL Team 3 sniper Chris Kyle was killed at an attack on a shooting range, he had met with Ernest Emerson, of nationally known Emerson Knives Inc., to discuss the creation of a specially designed blade.
It was to be a true warrior’s knife, The Daily Caller reported. But the SEAL was killed 10 days later — on Feb. 2, by a post-traumatic stress disorder veteran he was trying to help — before the knife’s design was set.
So Emerson created a knife as a memorial to him instead, The Daily Caller said. Plans are for it to be auctioned, with the money that’s raised to be given to Mr. Kyle’s family.
The knife is a CQC-6 with a titanium bolster, The Daily Caller said. It has a black micarta handle, and a 154CM steel blade engraved with the SEAL Trident and the words: “Chris Kyle — US Navy SEAL — 160 Confirmed Kills” on the front. Also engraved on the front, continuing to the back: “We Sleep Soundly In Our Beds … Because Rough Men Stand Ready To Do Violence.”
The Daily Caller said Emerson is making two of the knives — one for auction and one for the family. The CQC-6 was chosen because it’s the knife designed especially for SEALs.
“One of these knives will be put up for auction with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Kyle family, and the other knife will be my personal gift to the family in honor of a man, a warrior, a husband and a father that I am honored to have known as only a friend,” Mr. Emerson said, on the auction website.
Bidding closes on June 8.
