Oscar Pistorius, the Olympic “Blade Runner” accused of murdering his model girlfriend, made a brief appearance in court Tuesday where he said two words: “Yes sir.”
He was emotionless and spoke only once, in answer to the judge’s questions, at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, Fox News reported. The judge, meanwhile, agreed to delay Mr. Pistorius’s murder trial until Aug. 19.
The delay came at the request of the prosecution, The Associated Press reported. Police need more time to finish their investigation, Fox News said.
Mr. Pistorius has admitted that he shot and killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, as an accident on Valentine’s Day, thinking she was a home intruder. Prosecutors allege he actually killed her on purpose, angry over a recent argument they had.
Mr. Pistorius will remain free on bail, AP said. He’s called the “Blade Runner” because he’s a double-amputee and runs on high-tech prosthetics.
