Erika Brannock, a 29-year-old teacher who lost her left leg in the April 15 Boston bombing terrorist attack, is heading home to Maryland.
She’s the last of the bombing victims to be discharged from hospital care, The Associated Press reported.
Ms. Brannock lost her left leg above the knee and had to undergo treatment for severe bone and tissue damage to her right leg, AP said. Doctors performed 11 surgeries so far — and she will likely need more, one Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center physician said on Monday.
“She will have a long course ahead,” Dr. Edward Rodriguez said, including learning to walk again, AP reported.
Ms. Brannock said she’s planning a speedy return to the classroom and has already sent a video of herself to her students, “to kind of introduce them to my new body,” AP reported. She also said, CNN reported: “I leave here today, after 11 surgeries, some pretty dark moments and 50 days in this hospital, with nothing but admiration for this great city [of Boston].”
She was hospitalized for 50 days and is the last of more than 250 Boston bombing victims to be released from hospital care, CNN reported.
