The Federal Bureau of Investigation is seeking tips from the public to aid in the investigation of a U.S. Marine reservist who was kidnapped in Mexico.
Armando Torres III was kidnapped on May 14 by armed men in La Barranca in Mexico’s Tamaulipas state. His father, Armando Torres II, and uncle, Salvador Torres, were abducted at the same time, CNN reported. The son was in Mexico visiting family at his father’s ranch.
Gunmen stormed the ranch and abducted all three, and investigators haven’t heard from them since, CNN said. Neighbors tell law enforcement that the kidnapping stemmed from a land dispute over the Torres ranch, CNN reported.
The U.S. State Department is working with Mexican authorities on the case, and the FBI has opened an international kidnapping investigation, CNN reported. FBI agents are soliciting information from the public and say anyone with information should get in touch with members of the FBI’s Brownsville Resident Agency Office.
Armando Torres III is from Texas and holds the rank of corporal in the Marine Corps Individual Ready Reserves, CNN said.
