Aides at the White House say the general mood on Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr.’s political mishaps and missteps is this: It’s time for him to resign.
“The White House is apoplectic about him, and has been for a long time,” said one Democrat, described in The New York Times report as a friend of several White House staffers. The general belief is that Mr. Holder should have been able to predict the political fallout and media anger from the Justice Department’s seizure of journalists’ records, The New York Times said.
“How hard would it be to anticipate that the [Associated Press] would be unhappy?” the unnamed Democrat said in The Times article.
Mr. Holder’s “saving grace through years of controversies has been the friendship of two women close to Mr. Obama,” the source said in The Times article. The two women: first lady Michelle Obama and Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to Mr. Obama.
Mr. Holder’s friends said in The Times article that he is reluctant to leave his job for the private sector but that he might be pushed into resigning this fall.
