A suicide bomber killed at least 10 school children walking Paktia province streets on their lunch break, two soldiers and an Afghan police officer on Monday.
The nationalities of the soldiers have not yet been released, pending notification of families, The Associated Press reported. But Gen. Zelmia Oryakhail, the police chief of the province, said the bomber had been trying to kill members of a joint U.S. military-Afghan Local Police patrol, CBS reported.
The U.S. coalition in Afghanistan, meanwhile, confirmed two of its troops were killed, but did not specify the nationalities, various media said.
The police chief said the bomber rode through the market streets of Samkani on a motorbike and detonated his bombs just as the joint task force passed him, CBS reported. Sixteen other students and 10 ALP members were also injured, he said, in the CBS report.
