PUMA announced Thursday that it will be severing its professional ties with NFL star Aaron Hernandez, who is awaiting trial for the murder of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.

A representative for PUMA told TMZ, “PUMA has ended the relationship with athlete Aaron Hernandez in light of the current situation.”

Hernandez signed the 2-year endorsement deal with PUMA in April 2013 as the face of its “training category,” TMZ reported. It’s unclear how much the deal was worth.
Mr. Hernandez was charged with 1st degree murder and 5 other gun-related charges in connection with the death of a 27-year-old former semi-pro football player named Odin Lloyd.

Mr. Hernandez is being held without bail. It was reported earlier Thursday that investigators in Boston are looking into whether he might be connected to a double homicide that occurred in the city last July.
