Rep. Maxine Waters and the rapper formally known as Snoop Dogg have joined for an anti-gun, anti-violence push that will bring them to a round-table discussion on the effects of gun-related violence on society in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Snoop Dogg, who has a birth name of Calvin Broadus but who now goes by the name Snoop Lion, has become an outspoken voice against gun violence in recent months, Politico reported. And his most recent song is even titled “No Guns Allowed.”
He’s now joining with Mrs. Waters, fellow rapper T.I., and Rob “Biko” Baker, executive director of the League of Young Voters, for this weekend’s discussion on the pitfalls of guns, sponsored by BET and the voters league.
“I just felt like it was necessary for me to make a record that spoke to the violence, spoke to me wanting to have a good time … with no guns allowed, with no guns permitted so that everybody can go home and enjoy tomorrow.”
The round-table discussion represents quite a switch for Snoop Lion.
In 1996 he faced first- and second-degree murder charges for the 1993 shooting death of gang member Philip Woldemariam. He was acquitted. His bodyguard, McKinley Lee, also was acquitted of one charge of conspiracy to commit assault.
