A glitch in Facebook’s data operations has exposed some private information of about six million users.
The company reported it was “upset and embarrassed” by the bug, which passed along email and telephone contacts of six million to people who would not have had access, according to the BBC.
A programmer who worked outside the company discovered the bug, which has since been fixed, the company said.
Though Facebook expressed dismay at the bug, company executives also said the “practical impact” of the privacy infringement was small, because the information was most likely shared among users who already knew each other, BBC reported.
