The U.S. Coast Guard sent rescuers by sea and by air, ordering out at least two patrol boats and diverting a HH060 Jayhawk helicopter from the Air Station Cape Cod, in a frenzied attempt to find a 19-year-old who fell off a Martha’s Vineyard ferry ride Thursday night.
The man was ultimately found and rescued by Coast Guard raft. His name is not being released, the Martha’s Vineyard Times reported. But he’s reportedly doing fine — though the reason for his tumble into the ocean is still a mystery.
“It just appears to be an accident caused by horseplay,” said one public affairs spokeswoman for the U.S. Coast Guard First District in Boston, in the Times, on Friday.
The rescue — from fall to emergency call to patrol boat and helicopter response — took about 10 minutes, she said.
