A New Hampshire lawmaker who said the April 15 Boston terrorist bombings were due to a U.S. government plot — and that a victim who lost both legs wasn’t really in pain — has resigned, to the relief of politicos with both Republican and Democratic parties.
Republican Rep. Stella Tremblay of Auburn said in her resignation letter that she’s leaving her seat due to a move from the district, the Associated Press reported. But even she admits that her departure is a relief to most.
“Certainly this announcement comes as a sigh of relief from both parties. However, this action is due to ’Divine Providence’ that has presented by family with an opportunity to leave the district in which I now reside,” she wrote, AP reported.
Ms. Tremblay faced considerable fire for a Facebook posting that called the Boston Marathon bombings a “black ops” plot by the U.S. government. She then said during a radio interview that a victim who was widely photographed being wheeled from the bombing scene — and who later lost both his legs to amputation — was not in pain, AP reported.
Her words, during the interview: “It seemed surreal to me. … He was not in shock. He was not in pain. If I had had those types of injuries, I would be screaming in agony,” AP reported.
She’s since apologized for her comments. But officials with both parties are still happy she’s leaving.
“We are glad to see her go,” said Jennifer Horn, chairwoman of the state Republican Party, in the AP report.
Democratic Party spokesman Harrell Kirstein said she was an embarrassment to the state and that her resignation is most welcomed.
