The German government has shown unmitigated gall in joining the European Union campaign to label Israeli-made goods as Jewish (Commentary, “A label for the Jews, again,” June 20).

Less than 80 years ago, this same country started a massacre of Jews that resulted in the killing of one-third of the Jewish population of the world. Starting with labeling stores with Jewish owners with six pointed stars to indicate that they were off-limits for “good” Germans and culminating in mass murder, the current German government and people now should examine their past.

I am appalled by the actions of German Chancellor Angela Merkel agreeing and even encouraging this action against Israel and Jews in general.
