Truth is stranger the fiction. Academy Award-winning actor and director Robert Duvall — who counts among his film credits “The Godfather” and “The Godfather: Part II,” as the Corleone family’s lawyer — stopped by the Boston courtroom on Friday where James “Whitey” Bulger is being tried for racketeering.

Mr. Bulger, 83, is charged with assisting with 19 murders in the 1970s and 1980s, while allegedly heading up the Irish-American Winter Hill Gang. He has pleaded not guilty.

Mr. Duvall sat in the back of the courtroom as a spectator, The Associated Press reported.

The actor has been in the process of shooting a movie in Shelburne, Mass., AP reported. He plays the title character in the film, “The Judge,” alongside Robert Downey Jr., Billy Bob Thornton and Vincent D’Onofrio, AP reported.
