Israeli police said a guard at the Western Wall shot and killed a suspicious man with his hands jammed in his pockets and who began to shout “Allahu Akbar,” of God is great, early Friday.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the guard “fired a number of shots” at the man, who was believed to be around 40 years old, CBS reported. He died moments after, and police cordoned off the area to continue the investigation.

Several Israeli newspaper outlets reported that the man shouted the phrase several times.

The Western Wall is one of Israel’s most holy sites, but it’s been an area of frequent clashing between Israelis and Palestinians.
