Note to FBI: Stop digging.
That’s the message of one source who said investigators will never find the remains of Jimmy Hoffa because the former Teamster’s body was fed through a wood chipper decades ago.
An unnamed source – who said he was close to the 1975 investigation into the disappearance of the Mafia-tied union head – called this week’s dig for Mr. Hoffa’s remains in a field outside Detroit a pure waste of time, DNAinfo reported.
The source recounted his version of the mysterious disappearance this way: Mr. Hoffa, 62, was lured to the Red Fox restaurant just north of Detroit on that fateful July 30, 1975, evening to meet with mob enforcer Anthony “Tony Jack” Giacalone and alleged New Jersey mobster Anthony “Tony Pro’ Provenzano, and killed.
He was choked to death while sitting in the front seat of a 1975 Mercury Marquis Brougham, a car owned by Giacalone’s son, the source said, in the Fox News report.
The source then said Mr. Hoffa’s body was driven about 16 miles away to Inkster. His body was run through a wood chipper, DNAinfo reported. The FBI in 2000 already found a hair inside the Mercury Marquis that belonged to Mr. Hoffa, Fox News reported.
Yet, the case remains open.
But all the searches that have been conducted since 1975 – one beneath a swimming pool, another beneath a horse farm — have been a needless drain on police resources and time, the source said.
“What a waste,” the source said, in DNAinfo. “They’ll never find him.”
