It just became a smidge harder for Fox News haters to dismiss the network as Republican drivel.
Fox executives confirmed on Thursday that it has hired Washington journalist Howard Kurtz — who has decades of experience that includes yearslong stints at CNN and The Washington Post — to serve as anchor of “Fox News Watch.”
Mr. Kurtz said in a statement provided by Fox News: “I hope to add a new dimension to Fox’s coverage and have some fun while diving into the passionate debates about the press and politics.”
Following 29 years at The Post, Mr. Kurtz worked at The Daily Beast, beginning in 2010, The Daily Caller reported. He and The Daily Beast parted ways last month after an inaccurate report about NBA player Jason Collins, who had recently announced he was gay.
Fox News Executive Vice President Michael Clemente said part of the network’s interest in Mr. Kurtz was because of his social media savvy.
“Howie is the most accomplished media reporter in the country,” Mr. Clemente said in The Daily Caller. “He’s also a master of social media trends, information good and bad, and a veteran political reporter.”
Meanwhile, CNN said was searching for a new anchor for “Reliable Sources.” Mr. Kurtz is due to start at Fox on July 1.
