Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on Sunday said the revelations of abuse at the Internal Revenue Service have created an opportunity for lawmakers in both parties who would like to move forward with tax reform.

Mr. Priebus, appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” said: “This is a great segue for leadership in both parties to have a serious conversation about overhauling the IRS and the tax code and doing something big in this country, like making a fairer, flatter tax code. Let’s have that conversation because clearly the IRS is failing.”

And while there has been no evidence of direct involvement by the White House in the IRS scandal, the administration’s “culture” helped fuel the situation, Mr. Priebus said.

“The culture of the president calling tea party groups terrorists … and that entire culture has been cultivated by the president and his people, and everyone has been following,” Mr. Priebus said.
