DOVER, DEL. (AP) - Fox Sports apologized to drivers at their pre-race meeting for the camera cable that snapped and delayed last week’s Sprint Cup race.
Artie Kempner, coordinating director of NASCAR on Fox, told drivers before Sunday’s race at Dover that it was unfortunate the mishap “became part of the story.”
“We apologize sincerely for what happened,” Kempner said.
Kempner said afterward there were never any plans for the overhead camera to be used at Dover. Fox Sports, which televises its final NASCAR race of the season Sunday, still had not determined why the overhead TV camera cable snapped during the Coca-Cola 600. Several cars suffered heavy damage and 10 fans were injured when a part of the rope landed in the grandstand.
“We work with these guys every week and we want to let them know, we don’t ever want to be the story,” he said.
