At least 31 people were killed and 60 others wounded when two terrorists blew themselves up inside a Shiite mosque in Baghdad on Tuesday.

The attack came a day after bombings near Baghdad killed at least 10 people in the cities of Taji and Fallujah and included a blast in a roadside restaurant, BBC News reported Tuesday.

Sectarian attacks have surged in recent months on such targets as mosques, restaurants and local markets, the BBC said.

The two bombers shot and killed the men guarding the Habib ibn Mathaher mosque shortly after midday prayers and then detonated themselves inside the mosque, eyewitnesses said, according to the BBC.

“The suicide bomber detonated himself among the worshippers, who were gathering after the call to prayer,” policeman Furat Faleh said, according to Reuters.
